Frequently Asked Questions

Some specialties include faith-based Christian counseling, women on church staff/ pastor’s wives, anxiety, depression, post-partum, ADD/ADHD, life transitions, grief and loss, past wounds, parenting, struggles surrounding motherhood, goal setting, church hurt, relationship issues, and trauma.

I work with all women ages 18+, on rare occasions I have openings for teenagers but after school hours are limited so there is currently a waitlist.

No! I only integrate faith-based counseling to the degree that the client wants. I will never push any belief on the client. My faith-based Christian counseling is only 1 specialty that I work with. You can see below to see major theoretical orientations that I use in my practice.

Yes, I see women across the state of North Carolina virtually. This helps people in more rural areas have greater options for treatment as well as provides greater flexibility for sessions.

I can diagnose and I will if it is appropriate or necessary. However, I see a lot of clients who do not fit in a specific diagnostic box. For more information on this topic I’ve written a blog you can find on my website. Access the blog here.

Sessions are somewhere between 45-55 minutes in length.

Frequency is dependent on the client and the specific needs and goals. This is something that we can discuss when you begin counseling. I try to be flexible to the needs of my clients.

Hours are typically Mondays-Thursdays 8:30am- 1:30pm. Because sessions are virtual they allow for a great amount of flexibility.  I have some clients who see me during their child’s nap times, on their lunch breaks, in their parked cars, and even waiting in school pick-up lines.

Sessions are an out-of-pocket cost of $120 a session.

I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide a superbill (receipt for payment and codes) that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. It is up to the client to contact their insurance company to find out what the reimbursement rate is. Keep in mind as well that insurance companies will require a diagnosis to reimburse, we can talk about if and what diagnosis is appropriate depending on symptoms.

I do work with some churches who are willing to cover a specified number of sessions for their congregation members, or willing to offset the cost. If this is something you are interested in we can talk more.

At this time I am offering a 25% discount on sessions for pastor’s wives and women working in churches.

My counseling style comes from several major theoretical orientations, here are a few that I draw from on a regular basis.

  • Person centered: meaning that treatment is tailored to the client and their specific needs, counseling tends to be conversational. I want you to feel safe and supported.
  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): You won’t find many counselors out there today that don’t utilize CBT. This evidence-based theory is based on the belief that our thought patterns cause certain emotions and behaviors. By keying in on these specific thoughts we can then begin to change our emotional and behavioral responses.
  • Existentialism: This theory is built on the belief that we all have a lens from which we see the world. Often, I can help change the lens in which you see the event or life which can and help you respond to it in a new and different way.
  • Psycho-educational: much of my counseling, especially in the realm of anxiety, anger, and ADD/ADHD comes from educating my clients about what the brain and body are doing. The more you understand what is going on internally the more prepared you are.
  • Psychoanalytic: By using something I call wound work, we can look at times in the past that have been painful. These moments can subconsciously define how we see ourselves, others, or life. By working through these “wounds” we begin to heal from past experiences.
